Food Menu

reef point brew house

This was our first time eating at Reefpoint Brew House. There was plenty of parking when we arrived. The restaurant is located on the second floor. You could either walk up the stairs or take the elevator. Once you reach the top, you can view the entire Lake Michigan from all sides. Once we sat down, the service was immediate.

Brunch

The food we had was delicious, and we would like to come back to try other things on the menu. I would recommend coming to Reefpoint Brew House. First class views from second floor dining room. Arrived for Sunday brunch and ordered a Pina colada mimosa. New take that did not disappoint. The brisket Benedict was fabulous, as well as the pulled pork breakfast tacos.

Sunday Brunch

There isn't anything on the menu I wouldn't try. It looks like the kitchen as well as the bar is capable of delivering success on anything they put on it. Reefpoint brew house is an amazing place, the food is good, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. Good view of the lake from the 2nd floor. Highly recommend this place.

Definitely will stop by if we're ever in the area again. Awesome spot right on the water! It's upstairs so that makes the view even better. Excellent crab cakes and the mussels were the best we've had in the area. Not only are we professional caterers, but we are also experienced event planners. Our all-in-one packages are designed with your budget in mind, meaning all you have to do is enjoy the event.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches

charlotte tilbury pillow talk swatch

This shade started to fade visibly after eight hours of wear. Create the illusion of fuller, wider lips with my Matte Revolution – for lips that look lit from within. It’s a trick I use all the time on photo shoots, using lighting trickery, pigments and powders, and have been working for years to re-create this effect in the slick of 1 lipstick. Now everyone can create this full, matte lip effect in a long-lasting, buildable, hydrating formula – it’s the matte lipstick of the future! Exclusively enriched with Lipstick Tree extract which protects lips and is a natural anti-oxidant, and Orchid Extract which soothes and hydrates for a soft, buildable cashmere finish. Available in 10 modern-matte shades for all skin tones – 1 for each of my signature looks.

Matte Revolution Lipstick

Amazing Grace is inspired by Grace Kelly, a vintage tea rose for pretty, polished perfection a la Nicole Kidman and Miranda Kerr. Pillow Talk Date Eyes (Prime) is a light-medium, yellowed brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top.

Makeup & Beauty Product Reviews

Charlotte’s packaging is pretty basic yet elegant as the inside has lovely rose gold accents with her signature star etching and a generously sized mirror. The blush has an outer blush shade with a core that acts as a highlighter. I thought doing this would be awkward but it’s actually not! I did however, find it easier just to swirl both shades together and apply as I’m not a master at highlighter placement.

Featured Swatches

The consistency was soft, silky, and slightly dusty, which ensured it was blendable on my skin but seemed too thin (wasn’t the most flattering finish on my skin). It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before it started to fade on me. Pillow Talk Desk Eyes (Enhance) is a rich, deeper coral with strong, warm orange undertones and a matte finish.

Popular Products

I have the original Pillow Talk palette, so I don’t think I need this one, too. Well, I think she and Tom Ford both think it’s the magical component of their quads since they continue to include them in just about every quad, LOL. I wish they’d reformulate + innovate so that they were more naturally adhesive or maybe use finer sparkle and more base pigment.

I was never drawn to this one because a full-on midtoned peachy pink eye is not something I can pull off on my brown eyes. For blue-eyed peeps who can’t get enough of that look I guess it’s nice if not rather boring. I did however buy her Exagger-eyes palette (the Victoria Secret look one I think ??) and I REALLY love that one.

I could see using 3 of its shades for a monochromatic, simpler look for business or for others who need a quick, easy look. Plus having that singular pop for day into evening usage. Debating whether to buy this or the Pillow Talk quad, as this palette is quite the investment. From the first two trios you can kind of get the same look as in the quad, though I prefer the Day Smoke shade than the pink in the Original Pillow Talk quad. Absolutely love the Smoke in the Date look, I think it would look beautiful on green eyes. Again, I am glad this performed well but there are just too many shadows here that I either wouldn’t use of are too similar to other shades I already own so I won’t be getting this.

Product details

The texture was smooth, velvety, and more substantial with a touch of powderiness, which seemed present in the pan but yielded no fallout during application. It had rich color coverage that wore nicely for eight hours before showing signs of fading. Pillow Talk Day Eyes (Enhance) is a light copper with moderate, warm undertones and a smooth, metallic sheen with faint pink and gold micro-sparkle. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges.

Romance Light is the lighter variation which I prefer for my skin tone. I don’t know that I would call it a must-have since you can get a similar effect with other highlighters on the market. While it is matte, it’s got a little bit of slip to it. It will look nice even if only a very thin layer is applied.

I liked this color in the tube, but it just didn't work with my skin tone; it seemed to have a gray tint to it when it was on my lips. I have fair skin with a generally neutral undertone but with a cool pink/red tone on my lips and cheeks. This color would have looked fine on a "younger" me, but not on the currently-aged me.

It is quite a cohesive palette and one of CT’s better ones. There isn’t a single colour in here that I even like. For those who love these shades, I’m sure it’s a wonderful palette but for me, it’s an easy “no”. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk is a moderately warm-toned, light peach with a luminous finish. It is a permanent blush that retails for $40.00 and contains 0.28 oz. Overall the quality and color payoff of everything in her new launch is great.

It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly. If I were more tan, this quad would be useless on my otherwise NC15 skin. Also, this makes me look like a sleepless rabbit – it’s got a significant pink/red undertone. The same youtubers who complain about the lack of shade range in foundations said nothing about the lack of depth and usability for anyone darker than light. Pillow Talk #2 is a muted, dusty coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage that was hard to really build up, even over primer.

Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘. I bought this quad when it first came out, then as a LE, I also bought the lipstick and the blusher.I agree with your review, Christine. I like the formula and the color is flattering on my fair-neutral complexion.

The texture was soft, slightly dusty, and blendable, which gave it a thinner, drier feel overall. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before it started to fade a touch. Pillow Talk Day Eyes (Smoke) is a muted, medium dusty coral with warm undertones and a matte finish.

So today I’m excited to share my honest Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick Review and lipstick swatches of both the original and medium pillow talk lipsticks on fair skin. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had medium, buildable color coverage--up to mostly opaque--with a velvety, smooth, and thin consistency that clung a bit to lips, though not in an uncomfortable, drying kind of way. I just felt like it had a tendency to emphasize my lip lines a bit as some color pulled into them. Pillow Talk Dreams #4 is a deep brown with subtle, warm red undertones and a matte finish. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Seems as though she does indeed lack inclusion of anyone Medium or beyond. The only exception may be those Cat-eyes e/s singles from a few years back, which would have worked on anyone and everyone! Unfortunately, that’s where the brand’s inclusiveness ends. Hers is not the only brand guilty of excluding us, but it is one that does so in a way that makes it a brand that only barely gets my attention for that reason. Whilst this isn’t my kind of palette, I think it has been well done. The shimmer and matte shades had both decent pigmentation and depth to them.

When ordering meds online, if you come across pharmacies that offer super-bargains and deals that seem too good to be true, steer clear of them. Ensure you choose an online pharmacy that is transparent about upcoming expiration dates and offers guarantees based on them. At Inhouse Pharmacy, we do list discounted medications based on upcoming expiry dates, and we guarantee that they arrive well ahead of those expiration dates. Before they can gain full access to some drug, health systems must gather data to demonstrate better outcomes to pharmaceutical companies, which can take at least two years, McCluskey said. In addition, insurance companies require new specialty pharmacies to become accredited before they will work with them, Chamberlin added. The business plan needs to define priorities and include multiple financial models that demonstrate the specialty pharmacy’s potential return on investment (ROI) based on best- and worst-case scenarios.

Specialty pharmacies have become a significant player in the U.S. health system, especially as chronic diseases become more prevalent. The 22nd is a majority Latino district that includes parts of Kern, Tulare and Kings counties, several small towns and a portion of Bakersfield. Voters here favored Biden over Trump by 13 percentage points in 2020, making Valadao one of the most vulnerable GOP incumbents in the country. Once a safely ruby-red Republican domain, California’s 22nd Congressional District is in a part of the San Joaquin Valley that has grown increasingly purple in recent years, with Democrats now holding the registration advantage. Wasserman stressed that there were still open questions about the strength of Biden’s support among Latino voters. A scenario where Trump manages to make inroads with those voters would favor Duarte, Wasserman said.

Where can I find legitimate online pharmacies?

These factors directly inform how many specialty patients the pharmacy can support. It is particularly important to consider the health system’s centers of excellence when seeking out access to these networks. Throughout the implementation process, other decisions will need to be made regarding structural layout and design, workflow processes, and technology systems for the specialty pharmacy. Policies, procedures, and accreditation readiness programs will also need to be developed. Additionally, partners can advise internal experts on best practices for developing patient outreach and marketing plans to effectively communicate the value of the new specialty pharmacy.

Ordering a prescription online may raise some eyebrows, but for those with long term medication regimens, affordable prescriptions are essential to managing health conditions. Gaulden is being held without bond on 63 counts, including possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, identity fraud, procuring or attempting to procure drugs or prescriptions, forgery, and possession of marijuana. A firearm was located in the home, which Gaulden told detectives belonged to his wife. He claimed to have no recollection of the previous conference call and no knowledge of the fraudulent prescriptions, according to the arrest report. “This list does not include all the likely attempts at calling in the prescriptions to other various pharmacies that have identified it as fraud prior to filling the prescription,” the document reads. The following day, someone claiming to be Gaulden’s business manager contacted detectives to get the Tahoe out of impound.

For many health systems, investment in specialty pharmacy can generate positive patient outcomes alongside substantial revenues. We've seen tremendous growth of health system owned specialty pharmacies (HSSPs) across the decade. In fact, Advisory Board wrote about the movement towards HSSPs in 2016, and has since published a library of resources to support pharmacy leaders as they start and grow their specialty pharmacy.

The district has a slight Latino majority, with white voters also accounting for nearly 40% of the electorate, according to data from California Target Book. It includes cities like Madera, Ceres and Merced and portions of Modesto and Turlock, as well as rural swaths of the San Joaquin Valley. As a first-time candidate emerging from a crowded primary, Tran faces the challenge of building name recognition against a candidate who is already well known in the district.

Blink Health offers the option of home delivery or local pickup through more than 35,000 participating pharmacies. Our reviews team explains how to get your order through local pickup and other details about the online pharmacy in our review of Blink Health. We researched the best online pharmacies to help you find safe and trustworthy options for filling prescriptions online. All our top picks offer free standard shipping and are licensed and NABP-accredited to ensure safe pharmacy practices over the internet. The scope of online shopping has grown immensely in the last couple of years, including the creation of online pharmacies. Online pharmacies can offer the same array of services that in-person pharmacies do, and many even include perks like special savings and overnight shipping—sans the long lines at many physical locations.

The Optum Store accepts only OptumRx, a pharmacy benefits manager that's an affiliate of UnitedHealthcare. Blink Health has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) but a customer review score of 1.54 out of 5 stars from an average of 50 reviews at the time of this writing. Seeing ads for magic weight loss pills and cancer-curing tablets on the homepage of a virtual pharmacy should be a warning sign to you. Not only are these wild claims nothing but lies and empty promises, but the same might be true with that website’s other products. According to an ASHP survey, roughly 26% of hospitals were operating a specialty pharmacy in 2019—a significant increase from 8% in 2015. With a comprehensive business plan in place and approval from C-suite secured, the planning team can transition to imple- mentation.

Counterfeit meds are increasingly common and endanger the lives of many people across the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 out of 10 medical products in developing countries and 1% in countries like the US are counterfeit. The risk of receiving illegitimate products increases when you’re ordering medicines online – but not if you know how to navigate safe online pharmacies that abide by pharmaceutical regulations. Still, health systems are grappling with how to transition their specialty pharmacy from a strategic investment to a sustainable, mature business. Health systems often do not have access to certain drugs under limited distribution, which means that the manufacturer has restricted access to select pharmacies.

If you’re considering transgender hormone replacement therapy, you’re looking at a bigger  change than you’ve previously considered in your life. Throughout this process, your primary care physician has worked with you to establish your body’s needs, set expectations, and select the medication most likely to help you successfully reach your goals. With the CaryRx mobile app, this online pharmacy makes transferring, tracking and learning about your prescriptions easy. You’ll receive a push notification once your prescriptions are ready, where you can then follow your medication’s shipping and delivery. As a bonus, pharmacists are available around-the-clock to answer questions via in-app chat or by phone. Successful HSSPs are finding that the ability to demonstrate outcomes and communicate the specialty pharmacy's value is becoming increasingly critical to access both limited distribution drugs and to be included in health plan pharmacy networks.

With our registered pharmacists, friendly customer service teams and quality medications, we strive to help you live your best life. The goal of point-of-care pharmacies is to enhance medical outcomes by increasing the level of collaboration between physicians and pharmacists. Physicians will always have the primary responsibility for patient care, diagnosis, and medication prescription. However, by closely collaborating with an in-house pharmacist, physicians can take advantage of the specialized knowledge pharmacists have for MTM. This joint approach not only helps patients thoroughly understand their medications, but also allows the physician and the pharmacist to collaboratively monitor, review, and modify the medications based on the patient’s response.

The 18,000-square-foot center will help drugmakers and health-care providers navigate the complex supply chain for those treatments and manage patient needs, among other issues. Many hospitals have already achieved these goals by incorporating clinical pharmacy services, which have proved to be effective at reducing the incidence and severity of adverse medication-related events. Since there were 36.5 million hospital stays in 2012,1 this is good news for a large number of those hospitalized patients. 3Same-day and next-day prescription delivery services may be available for an additional fee.

Walgreens' decision to launch cell and gene therapy services comes after a surge in approvals of those drugs in the U.S. in the European Union over the last year. With experience presenting similar business plans to other hospital C-suites, the right consultative partner can provide valuable insights on how to best present the plan to the organization’s decision-makers. Planning teams should also be cognizant of what will resonate with the decisionmak- ers when educating them on the opportunity of a specialty pharmacy and tailor communications accordingly. For instance, when meeting with the chief financial officer, the planning team should explain the need for specific resources and the specialty pharmacy’s overall potential ROI.

Charlotte Ramplings Unknowable Truth The New York Times

charlotte rampling 60s

Rampling could easily have made her career in the UK but was sought after by Italian directors, including Gianfranco Mingozzi and Luchino Visconti. She was never to be pinned down in predictable roles, and acted in diverse productions, from TV series including The Avengers, and opposite Yul Brynner in the adventure film The Long Duel, to playing Anne Boleyn in the costume drama Henry VIII and His Six Wives. Rampling’s talent was soon in demand both in the UK, USA and in Europe and it seemed almost destined that Europe would win out when she fell in love and married the French composer Jean-Michel Jarre, and made her home in France in 1978. Rampling’s trajectory from her early films to the movies she made in her late 50s has been characterized as a transition from merely playing her cold sexy self to learning to act — or being taught how, as one writer absurdly suggested, by the much less experienced Ozon.

h Berlinale awards meet up to the festival's political reputation

Having started acting in her teens, the British beauty’s career has spanned more than seven decades. During that time she’s adapted her looks to suit current trends, but has always stayed true to her personal style. We’re all vain, we’re all narcissistic, we don’t like to grow old. We are young at one stage and then we’re getting older as nature will have us. Those things should not even come into your horizon as an actor because if you sit back and say, “Oh I don’t want that role because I won’t look pretty,” then you’re not going to have much work coming your way.

Gods From Space: When London Taxi Diver George King Met Jesus And Other Aliens

Given that her career has, in its own right, been extraordinary, I wonder how she feels about the idea of being a muse. “I think it’s a question of age, because when you’re much younger, you could be. Rampling has admitted that she doesn’t make films to entertain people, that she chooses roles to challenge herself, to break through her own barriers. I generally don’t make films to entertain people, I choose the parts that challenge me to break through my own barriers. A need to devour, punish, humiliate, or surrender seems to be a primal part of human nature, and it’s certainly a big part of sex.

Rampling plays a retired teacher named Kate Mercer who, in the opening scene, returns home with a letter for her husband, Geoff (Tom Courtenay), that has arrived from Switzerland. He reads it aloud and says, ‘‘They found her.’’ ‘‘Found who? My Katya,’’ a girl with whom he climbed a mountain before he met his wife of nearly half a century, a girl who fell to her death and who has just now been discovered preserved in ice.

We watch as her life begins to crack around her, but largely, that is it. It is so sparse that it makes the gorgeous 45 Years, for which she received her only Oscar nomination in 2016, look as action-packed as an Avengers movie. Her private life attracted as many headlines as her films. In the 60s she lived with her agent and partner, Bryan Southcombe, and their friend, the model Randall Laurence; there were rumours of a menage a trois, but she always denied it.

Susan King is a former entertainment writer at the Los Angeles Times who specialized in Classic Hollywood stories. Charlotte Rampling’s Unknowable Truth

With the sum total of what I’ve taken on board, it would be fantastic to be a young woman of 18. Maybe that extraordinary knowing-unknowing of youth, when you feel you really know things. You have the youthful power and then you have to go through life to really know.

She appeared in the cult classic Vanishing Point, in a scene deleted from the U.S. theatrical release (included in the U.K. release). Lead actor Barry Newman remarked that the scene was of aid in the allegorical lilt of the film. On the red carpet, the actor was almost always seen in black, whether in floor-sweeping coat dresses or chic two-piece suits, with soft waves in her shoulder length locks. Courtenay noted that “45 Years” has similarities to the story of his 27-year marriage to his wife, Isabelle, who was a stage manager when he was doing the play “The Dresser.” They are childless, and like Kate and Geoff they have a dog. Geoff becomes obsessed with Katya and spends time in the attic looking at the pictures and slides he had of his time with her. He even begins smoking, which he had quit since his heart surgery.

Fernando’s Story – The life And Times of A Boy Growing Up In NYC’s East Village in the 1970s

The after-party at the French macaron cafe Ladurée SoHo was low-key. Waiters circulated with sliders, plates of oversize French fries and movie tie-in cocktails by Lillet. The space was small, so it didn’t take more than a handful of people (models in cutout dresses, Ms. Young and the actors Hill Harper and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) to make it feel crowded. It is rare to find a mention of Rampling that does not refer to her credentials as a muse. She has been a muse to François Ozon, who revived her film career in the late 90s, to designer Yves St Laurent and photographers Helmut Newton and Juergen Teller (posing nude for the latter in front of the Mona Lisa), and now to Andrea Pallaoro, too.

She is a practiced hand at all this sound and flurry. “Another thing about acting is that I got bored very quickly. I’ve got a very, very restless character … It’s a beast.” Does she know where it comes from? You don’t quite know where you are.” Not that she is in any way ruffled by the train fiasco.

Showing no signs of slowing down in her sixties, Rampling returned to modelling in 2014 when she was named brand ambassador for Nars Cosmetics, with founder Francois Nars describing her as “a natural beauty that feels strong, yet relatable”. Rampling’s silver screen career really took off in the Seventies and Eighties with films like The Night Porter and Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories. The brunette beauty soon landed her first major film role with Georgy Girl in 1966. Starring alongside Lynn Redgrave and Alan Bates, Rampling had a classic Sixties bouffant hairdo in the film.

Rampling’s last partner was the French journalist Jean-Noel Tassez, who died in 2015. Rampling spoke out in 2016 about the efforts to boycott that year’s Oscar ceremonies over a lack of “racial diversity,” amongst nominees who were “racist to whites.” She later apologized that her comments had been misinterpreted. Fluent in French, it was inevitable that Rampling would be in demand from French directors and here again, Rampling chose challenging roles, refusing to be typecast and never opting for the easy or orthodox.

charlotte rampling 60s

To discover what normal means, you have to surf a tide of weirdness. Her most infamous role, in Liliana Cavani’s The Night Porter, about the sadomasochistic relationship between an SS officer, played by Dirk Bogarde, and a concentration camp survivor, was criticised by many contemporary critics, and banned in some countries. Kate’s anger, the surprising depth of it, reminded me of Meredith, the scornful and selfish character that Rampling plays in ‘‘Georgy Girl.’’ I could almost see Kate as a grown-up Meredith, which Rampling was willing to entertain. ‘‘I was very like that,’’ she said, ‘‘although not as radical as Meredith.’’ I added that it was great how she portrayed Meredith’s near-rage — it’s amazing how young people know so much that they can’t verbalize, they just do. After taking a break from her career, which she later revealed was due to mental health issues, Rampling returned to the spotlight in the late Nineties with a series of critically acclaimed roles in films such as Under The Sand and Swimming Pool.

Rampling has received a number of honors and awards. She was made an OBE in 2000 for her services to the arts; she received an Honorary Cesar in 2001; France’s Legion d’Honneur in 2002; a Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Awards in 2015. She was awarded the 2017 Volpi Cup for best actress at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. Quite a lot of things were experimental, I suppose. I don’t know whether I’ve got it now, but never mind – I had it! ” Randall went his own way after she married Southcombe, and they lost touch.

It was such a contrast to how she felt in real life. Things were incredibly difficult, but there, I felt just great.” She didn’t go on to study drama, or perform in school plays. She simply waited another year for an opportunity to ping in front of the good people of Stanmore. “Yes, I really was pinging,” she says, with that imperious cut-glass accent. “Pinging is when you’re at the right place at the right time, and you know you can just make magic happen everywhere.” We don’t ping often in life, she says, but when we do, it’s wonderful.

Titanic vs Cruise: the Ultimate Comparison with Modern Ships!

titanic size vs modern cruise ship

Modern cruise ships are, on average, 20% longer than the Titanic and twice as tall. Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world and is five times the size of the Titanic, with an internal volume of 250,800 GT. The primary difference between an ocean liner and a cruise ship is the voyage’s purpose. An ocean liner is typically used for line voyages, which involve transporting passengers from one point to another across the ocean.

titanic size vs modern cruise ship

Passenger capacity

In contrast, modern cruise ships use diesel-electric engines, which are more fuel-efficient and produce less pollution. The Titanic, one of the most famous ships in history, has long been a subject of fascination and comparison to modern cruise ships. While the Titanic was once considered the epitome of luxury and technological advancement, modern cruise ships have surpassed it in every way. The average of modern cruise ships is definitely weighted lower by these speciality exploration and luxury ships, but remember that there are many ships that are longer than the Titanic was too.

Titanic vs. Cruise: the Gross Tonnage

In contrast, modern cruise ships have much more robust lifeboat systems, with enough capacity to evacuate all passengers and crew in the event of an emergency. On average, modern cruise ships have a passenger capacity of around 2,450 and a crew capacity of 750. They offer a range of amenities such as dining venues and family-friendly activities, but their environmental impact is a growing concern. The evolution of gross tonnage has been significant in the history of shipbuilding, and it has played a crucial role in the development of modern cruise ships. In the past, the size of a ship was limited by the availability of materials and the technology used to build it.

Was the Titanic a Cruise Ship or Ocean Liner?

The first-class cabins were located on the upper decks of the ship and were the most spacious and luxurious. Second-class cabins were smaller but still comfortable, while third-class passengers had to share 10-person cabins and only had access to two shared bathrooms. The modern ships offer a wide range of accommodations to fit every budget and preference. Some ships like the upcoming Icon of the Seas, even offer multi-level loft suites with private hot tubs and butler service.

Everybody knows about the Titanic incident that shook the entire world in 1912. The ocean liner hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean; the strike caused huge damage below the water line on the right. Likewise, on Titanic, there are also classes for fares; the 3rd class fare starts from £30 and goes to £870 for 1st class members. So you can imagine that the Titanic was a luxurious and expensive sea ride of her time. Few staterooms feature balconies, and few cove balconies much closer to the sea. Similarly, amenities and facilities also vary across each level of accommodations.

And it’s interesting to note that, with the dimension restrictions set at 168 feet wide and 1,201 feet long, the Titanic would have been able to sail these locks quite easily. But the Silver Shadow, one of the smaller luxury ships, isn’t quite as dramatic a difference. She’s 610 feet long, which puts her at around two-thirds of the length of the Titanic. That might still sound significant, but we’re talking about one of the very smallest ships of 300 that currently sail.

This was actually more than British law required at the time, which mandated enough lifeboats for 30% of a ship’s capacity. On the other hand, modern cruise ships are built with double-hull technology and multiple watertight compartments that extend up the side of the hull. These features provide better structural integrity and improve the ship’s ability to prevent flooding. To cater to the growing demand for immersive experiences, modern cruise ships have embraced virtual reality (VR) technology. Passengers can step into a virtual world and embark on thrilling adventures without leaving the ship’s premises. Whether it’s exploring ancient ruins or diving into the depths of the ocean, VR experiences provide an extra layer of excitement and entertainment.

Besides this, there are also swimming pools on the Titanic ships; surprisingly, pools are heated. These drills typically involve a briefing on the location of lifejackets, the nearest emergency exits, and a demonstration of how to use them. Unfortunately, there were no safety drills on the Titanic, and many passengers were unaware of the location of lifejackets or the proper procedures for evacuating the ship. Industry insights show that small ship cruising is becoming increasingly popular, as travelers seek a more intimate and authentic experience.

Both the Verandah Cafe and the Cafe Parisian were located off the promenade, and offered a more intimate, casual dining experience than could be found with the other two selections. Depending on where a passenger’s stateroom was located on the ship, that luxury extended out into the halls, via cut-glass ceiling fixtures, gilt details and more. After all, if the Titanic was a huge ship just about a hundred years ago, surely it is still at least a moderately large ship by today’s standards… right? The Titanic had a wireless telegraph, which was state-of-the-art at the time and capable of sending distress signals and messages over long distances.

While the Titanic had a grand staircase and a music room, modern cruise ships offer a wide range of entertainment options, from movie theaters and casinos to spas and fitness centers. In terms of entertainment, modern cruise ships offer a wide range of options, from Broadway-style shows to live music, comedy, and magic performances. They also have state-of-the-art facilities for watching movies, playing video games, and more. For example, Symphony of the Seas has a 1,400-seat theater, an AquaTheater with high-diving shows, and a Studio B ice-skating rink. Instead, many first-class passengers, despite their luxury, were forced to share communal restrooms.

The Titanic only had enough lifeboats to accommodate 38% of its passengers and crew. In contrast, modern cruise ships have enough lifeboats to accommodate all passengers and crew, ensuring their safety in case of an emergency. Modern cruise ships offer a much wider range of activities and amenities, with multiple swimming pools, water parks, and sports facilities available to all passengers. Many ships also offer a range of onboard activities, such as cooking classes, dance lessons, and art workshops.

Passengers can access a wide range of movies, TV shows, and music through on-demand systems installed in their cabins. This level of personalization and convenience was unimaginable during the time of the Titanic. In contrast, modern cruise ship cabins come in various categories, catering to different preferences and budgets. On the Titanic, passengers had a range of options, from basic accommodations for third-class passengers to luxurious suites for first-class passengers. Get ready to set sail on a journey through time as we compare the legendary Titanic with the extravagant world of modern cruises. It’s a clash of eras, where opulence meets innovation and luxury collides with convenience.

However, these rivets had a high slag content, which made them prone to failure. In contrast, modern cruise ships use welding techniques that create a seamless hull, which is stronger and more resistant to damage. In contrast, today’s cruise ships are about 1,000 feet (300 m) long, have a gross tonnage of about 120,000 tons, and are 17/18 decks high. The Wonder of the Seas has a gross tonnage of 236,857, making it (currently) the World’s largest cruise ship. While modern cruise ships can have between 3 and 18 decks, the average cruise ship will have a similar number to the Titanic – usually between 9 and 11. Modern cruise ships compare with an average capacity of 3,077 cruisers and 1,203 crew members.

The Titanic was considered more luxurious than many (but not all) modern cruise ships, but of course, was a lot less safe too. The sinking of the Titanic happened over 100 years ago and although she was the largest ship at the time of her launch a lot has changed since. Modern cruise ships are, on average, 20% longer than the Titanic and twice as high. The average Royal Caribbean cruise ship is 325 meters long, 14 decks high and has a gross tonnage of 133,000. In comparison, the Titanic was only 269 meters long, 9 decks high, and had a gross tonnage of 46,000.

These regulations encompass not only lifeboats but also emergency procedures, safety features, and robust design requirements. On the other hand, second-class staterooms provided a relatively comfortable experience with small cabins and basic decor. The rooms were more modest than the first-class cabins but provided a comfortable stay for middle-class passengers. The Titanic’s gross registered tonnage is smaller than all of the cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet.

Princess Cruises ship that crashed into San Francisco's Pier 27 cleared for departure

cruise ship accident 2023

When counting incoming guests boarding the ships today, there are more than 30,000 travelers impacted by these delays. The accident occurred on March 15th when Mr. Rucker dove from an elevated structure into the water below. The structure may have been previously used to support a zip line which was abandoned years ago.

Is Canal Street In New Orleans Safe? A Local’S Perspective

An early morning accident has closed the PortMiami channel, causing major delays for three large cruise ships. The ship was returning from a 10-day cruise to Alaska, which had 3,328 guests and 1,159 crew members on board, none of whom were injured and all safely deboarded, according to Princess Cruises. Even though the propulsion and primary power systems remained operational, Carnival Cruise Line decided to cancel the itinerary not risking to cruise without an operational back-up.

Assessing the Risks: Understanding the Potential Dangers of the Storm

Reviewing CCTV footage showed that the young man intentionally jumped overboard from his cabin’s balcony. On February 6, 2020, a male crew died ashore, after being hospitalized in Progreso (Yucatan Mexico). The man (Leonardus Patra, Indonesian) worked on the ship as Assistant Team Waiter and reportedly died from a stomach infection. On June 7, 2021, while en route from PortMiami (Florida) to Marseille Fos Port (France), the ship approached Madeira Island (Portugal) and anchored close to Port Funchal to disembark a male crew. The man was medevaced via boat and ambulanced to Hospital da Luz Funchal for medical treatment (not specified).

Improving Ship Design and Safety Features

As compensation, all affected passengers received a full refund, plus 50% future Carnival cruise booking discount and optional early disembarkation (on May 4) with complimentary home flight. The 7-day New Orleans roundtrip cruise visited the ports Costa Maya, Roatan, Belize City, and Cozumel. As compensation, all passengers received a 20% future Carnival cruise credit, plus the port taxes and fees. All Cozumel shore excursions pre-booked through Carnival were fully refunded. The ship was on a 5-day Western Caribbean cruise (itinerary Jan 5-11) roundtrip from Galveston to Cozumel and Progreso (Jan 9).

A Carnival spokesperson said that the cruise line determined Hill "jumped" from the ship "after an exhaustive on-board search and a review of security camera video." If you’ve ever wondered what causes a massive cruise liner to lean to its side and partially submerge, you’re not alone. But under the wrong conditions, even today’s mega cruise ships can be at risk….

All 17 were successfully recovered by the tender's crew, embarked and assessed by the ship's medical staff. A patrol boat and two small catamarans were dispatched from Belize to transfer the rescued, then Carnival Dream resumed the voyage sailing towards Cozumel. A person who said they were aboard the vessel at the time posted on social media that they could see spotlights and rescue boats from their balcony during the nighttime search. Sahani's husband, Jakesh Sahani, woke up in the middle of the night and discovered his wife was not in their cruise cabin, the Straits Times reported.

He notified the ship's officials, who, according to the news outlet, told him that his wife was seen on CCTV footage sitting on the ship's railing at about 4 a.m. One witness told Business Insider that passengers lined up on their balconies and quickly banded together to try and guide the rescue boat as it scanned the water for signs of the woman. Collaboration between regulators and cruise lines can take the form of regular meetings, sharing of information, and joint initiatives aimed at addressing safety concerns. By working together, they can identify emerging risks and develop proactive measures to mitigate them. Another important aspect of continuous improvement is the analysis of near-miss incidents and accidents. By examining the root causes and underlying factors, cruise lines can identify trends and patterns that may indicate systemic issues.

These regulatory measures aim to establish a more robust framework for ensuring the safety of passengers and crew members on board cruise ships. By holding cruise lines accountable and implementing necessary changes, regulatory bodies contribute to the overall improvement of safety standards in the industry. It is imperative for cruise lines to regularly assess and update their fleet to meet the latest safety standards. By conducting thorough inspections and implementing necessary upgrades, cruise ships can better withstand storms and minimize potential risks to passengers and crew. Other major cruise lines followed suit, conducting safety audits and implementing new measures to enhance passenger safety during extreme weather conditions.

cruise ship accident 2023

Effective oversight and regulation are essential in maintaining safety standards within the cruise industry. Regulators and industry stakeholders must work together to establish and enforce robust safety requirements. It is imperative for cruise lines to prioritize the well-being of their guests and constantly strive for innovation and improvement in all aspects of ship operations. Cruise lines have also increased their collaboration with meteorological agencies to receive real-time weather updates and make informed decisions regarding itinerary changes or ship rerouting. From reinforced hulls to stabilizers that counteract the motion of the ship, various measures are taken to enhance the ship’s stability and safety. “This will enable guests … who must disembark the ship before their cruise ends, due to an emergency, to fly back to the United States without significant delays and complications,” the cruise line’s website reads.

A major cabin flooding (417 damaged staterooms) was reported on Serenade Of The Seas in January 2015. All these items were not segregated (as required) during food waste's collection in the galley (ship's kitchen). On September 30, 2018, passenger embarkation and ship's homeport departure were delayed by ~3 hours to allow finishing an unspecified work onboard. On December 29, 2018, while navigating in the Gulf of Mexico, en-route from Mexico back to New Orleans, the liner lost one of its lifeboats. Reportedly, the boat (unit number 28) broke loose from its davit and fell into the sea at ~2 pm.

Jennifer Morris is an avid solo travel adventurer who founded Solo Traveller after many years of journeying on her own around the world. Cruise lines should be open and transparent about their safety practices, making information easily accessible to both regulators and the public. “About an hour later, my daughter somehow got ahold of me through someone’s phone, and she told me they were in an accident.

There were no reported injuries among the 3,328 guests and 1,159 crew members who were on board the ship. While returning from a 10-day roundtrip cruise to Alaska, the cruise line said in a statement. Terrifying footage has emerged of panicked passengers bracing aboard a Norwegian cruise ship that lost power when it was hit by a rogue wave in the North Sea. On May 30, 2012, while the ship was docked in Coxen Hole (Roatan, Honduras), the wire rope of one of its rescue boats broke during hoisting (just before taking its rigging position). On July 1, 2017, a 77-year-old male passenger (suffering from abdominal pain) was medevaced when the ship was near Southwest Pass, Louisiana. A USCG boat transported the man to USCG Station Venice, from where he was transported by an ambulance to West Jefferson Medical Center (Marrero, Louisiana).

It all began with the brewing storm that was forecasted days before the ship set sail. Weather experts had issued warnings about a developing tropical disturbance in the region. Because the women were not on a shore excursion booked through the cruise line but rented the scooters independently, the ship had no way to know their location or condition, and did leave port without them. This is standard practice on all cruise lines if guests are late returning to the vessel.
